Day 2, 3 Tortuguero Area
Early departure to Tortuguero area “Land of Turtles”, the most important nesting area for the green sea turtles in the western Caribbean. A unique system of natural and manmade canals serves as waterways for transportation and exploration. A heaven for birdwatchers. A place to unwind and marvel at the beauty of Mother Nature.

Tortuguero shelters a fabulous array of wildlife, including more than 300 bird species, among them the great green macaw; 57 species of amphibians and 111 of reptiles, including three species of marine turtles; 60 mammal species, including 13 of Costa Rica's 16 endangered species, including jaguars, howler monkeys, tapirs, ocelots, cougars, river otters, and manatees. Commonly seen birds include toucans, aricaris, oropendolas, swallow-tailed hawks, several species of herons, kingfishers, anhingas, parrots, and jacanas. The wide-open canals make viewing easier than at many other parks--superb for spotting crocodiles, giant iguanas, and basilisk lizards basking atop the branches, swallow-tailed hawks and vultures swooping over the treetops, and caimans luxuriating on the fallen raffia palm branches at the side of the river.

Services included today: Land and boat transfer, welcome cocktail, breakfast, lunch and dinner, entrances to CCC Museum, visit to Tortuguero Village. Morning and late afternoon canal boat tours. Two nights accommodations at the Laguna Lodge in Tortuguero Area.

It is considered one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world. Arenal Volcano towers over lush green pastures and plantations of yucca, papaya, and cassava. Rushing waters heated by the volcano are channeled into pools at Baldi Hot Springs, offering a relaxing experience. The majestic Lake Arenal near the famous Arenal Volcano is the largest in Costa Rica. Lake Arenal remains the best spot in Costa Rica for windsurfing and fishing for peacock bass.

Services included today: breakfast & entrance fee at Hot Springs Resort.
